It’s hard to believe, but streaming sticks like the Amazon Firestick didn’t exist even ten years ago, and even those that did didn’t have anything like the features or power that today’s best alternatives bring to the table at practically unheard-of costs.
But why is the light on my firestick becoming blue? The Alexa voice command system has been activated but isn’t actively listening to a command if you notice your Firestick flashing blue light.
The Amazon Firestick is by far one of the most popular media streaming devices available today.
It’s undoubtedly in the top three in terms of sales, and it shows no indications of waning popularity anytime soon.
It’s hard not to fall in love with this tiny stick the first time you try it out since it’s small, sleek, superpowered, and incredibly simple to use owing to an ingeniously built remote that takes use of Alexa voice commands.
Firesticks, like anything else man-made, may sometimes “misbehave” and fail to perform as we anticipate.
Fortunately, Amazon anticipated such problems and troubles and included minor warning indications that anything was wrong with your Firestick.

Why is the blue light on my Firestick remote flashing?
If your Firestick remote control starts flashing a blue light at you (quite quickly, too), that signifies the Alexa voice command system has been activated but isn’t actively listening to a command.
The little microphone button on the top of the Firestick remotes provides you complete control over the Alexa voice command system. All you have to do is press the button for a few seconds until you see a solid blue light that indicates Alexa is listening.
However, before that happens, a sequence of flashing blue lights will appear, indicating that the Alexa system is initializing but isn’t quite ready for you yet.

What Should I Do to Remove the Flashing Blue Light?
So, right away, you must determine if the flashing blue lights are arriving at you as a result of routine remote activity (have you lately clicked the Alexa button) or as a result of anything unusual.
Most of the time, just pressing the Alexa button again will solve the problem. It’s sometimes necessary to push and hold the button until the lights become solid from blinking, but that’s about it.
If, on the other hand, the blue light refuses to quit flashing, you’ll need to attempt a few alternative methods.
To soft reset the system, disconnect the Firestick fully from your TV (HDMI and USB plugs removed). After that, you should consider taking the batteries out of your Firestick control for 30 seconds or so.
Reassemble the remote control after plugging the Firestick into your TV or monitor, and then attempt to use it when the Firestick comes back to life.
If everything seems to be in order, you should be good to go; but, if you’re still experiencing issues, you may need to “reset” the Firestick.
The process of resetting the stick is quick and uncomplicated. Simply press and hold the Firestick’s centre button (the large circle button) and the play button at the same time for a few seconds – generally three or four – until the Firestick says it’s resetting.
If you’re still having problems once everything has been reset, you should contact Amazon to see if they can send you a replacement. They will (and probably won’t charge you) 99 times out of 100.
What about the other lights on my Firestick remote that are blinking?
You should also be aware of the following connection lights:
- A flashing yellow/orange light indicates that your Firestick remote is in DISCOVERY MODE and is attempting to connect with a Firestick device.
- Blue lights that flash three times in a row – This indicates that your Firestick remote has paired with a device from DISCOVERY MODE and is ready to use.
- The DISCOVERY MODE was not successful if the yellow/orange lights flicker extremely slowly.
- A flashing red light indicates that the batteries in your Firestick remote need to be replaced right away.
