Guild Wars 2’s World vs World battles are in for a shake-up with the release of the WvW world restructuring beta. The beta will end early when matchmaking issues arise, but it is not clear if this is due to player concerns or technical difficulties.
It’s been a long time coming, but Guild Wars 2’s world-vs-world mechanism has finally been restructured. And then he was gone in the blink of an eye. On Friday, ArenaNet announced that the global reorganization beta has started. However, since betas aren’t always seamless, this test has resulted in many match-up problems.
“We’ve found a number of difficulties with the first beta of World Restructuring, and we’ve concluded that our best course of action is to go back to the World Linking system until we solve those problems,” ArenaNet said. “We’ve learnt a lot and will try again in a few weeks,” said the team.
The beta was only available until October 1st, which was far shorter than the initial intention.
The creators admitted in a later post-mortem that “things didn’t go the way we had planned,” but that the short-lived beta was still “valuable”: “Our long-term intentions for World Restructuring remain intact.” We’ll continue to take an iterative approach to product development and keep you updated on our progress, including triumphs and failures.”
