Guanyu Zhou is the latest addition to Alfa Romeo’s driver lineup. The deal was announced Wednesday following the announcement of his place in Formula 2 on December 3rd, 2018. “I am proud and thrilled that my racing career will be supported by such an iconic brand”, said Zhou.

Zhou became the latest driver to sign with Alfa Romeo for next year’s F1 race season. Zhou is set to join up with Racing Point Force India, where he will be racing alongside Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll

The “Alfa Romeo signs Chinese driver Guanyu Zhou for 2022” is a story about how Alfa Romeo signed up their first Chinese driver. The driver, Guanyu Zhou, has a net worth of $1.5 million dollars.

Guanyu Zhou will join Alfa Romeo as Valtteri Bottas’ teammate next season, making him the first Chinese Formula One racing driver.

Alfa Romeo announced on Tuesday that Zhou would join the team for the 2022 season, removing Italian driver Antonio Giovinazzi off the F1 grid.

With current driver Kimi Raikkonen scheduled to retire from Formula One at the end of 2021, Bottas was revealed as the team’s second signing for 2022 earlier this year.

Zhou, 22, has been a member of the Alpine driving program in recent years and has raced in Formula 2 since 2019.

He is now in second place in the F2 standings, behind Oscar Piastri, who was appointed as an Alpine reserve driver for next season on Tuesday and was a contender for the Alfa Romeo role.

Zhou is expected to get significant funding from China, with some sources indicating as much as $30 million, although Alfa Romeo team head Fred Vasseur would to comment on the contract’s contents or length.

“We’re completely focused on the team’s performance, and we don’t have to disguise the fact that the budget is a part of that performance,” he told Reuters. “We’re also aiming to get to the cost cap because it’s a crucial step for us.”

“The choice is critical for the company’s future,” Vasseur said, noting that his team is ninth out of ten in the constructors’ rankings.

“It was not simply because he is Chinese,” he told Reuters, “but it will be a mega-push for the business, for sponsors, and I believe for F1 in general.”

“He’s a front-runner in F2, having won in Bahrain and Silverstone this season, and he’s still in contention for the title, which is a very nice combination in the end. I’m more than hopeful.”

Zhou, who won the F3 Asian championship this year but hasn’t won a championship since upgrading from go-karts, said his boyhood ambition had come true.

“I’ve dreamed of rising as high as I can in a sport that I love since I was a kid, and now my goal has come true,” Zhou said. “It’s an honor for me to begin my Formula One racing career with such a renowned organization, one that has previously brought so much new talent to the sport.” The dream has become a reality.

“I am fully prepared for the tremendous challenge of Formula One, the peak of my sport, working alongside Valtteri Bottas, a proven, world-class talent.” I’d want to express my gratitude to the Alfa Romeo Racing ORLEN team for providing me with this chance. The goal for next year will be to learn as much as possible in as little time as possible.

“Being the first Chinese driver in Formula One is a watershed moment in Chinese racing. I’m aware that many people’s dreams will be placed in my hands, and I’ll use this as motivation to improve and accomplish more.”

Stefano Domenicali, the CEO of Formula One, also expressed his delight at Zhou’s arrival at Alfa Romeo.

“Guanyu Zhou’s announcement that he would race in Formula One next season is excellent news for the sport and the millions of ardent Chinese fans who will now have a local hero to root for all year. In F2, the pyramid is in place, propelling talent to the pinnacle of the sport. Zhou is a phenomenal talent who will be a terrific addition to our amazing grid in 2022, and he will delight and thrill all of our Chinese fans.”

The “guanyu zhou f1 2022” is a driver that will be driving for the Alfa Romeo team in the upcoming season.
